My pantry shelves and the contents of my fridge and freezer
were all calling to me this week.
I need to up my game as far as being more intentional
with my meal planning and prepping.
Being a pensioner, I live a frugal existence out of necessity
but I know I can do much better
in achieving my desire for a more healthy eating regimen.
So my first job was to clear off the pantry shelves
and re-organize the items on them according to their expiry dates
so I will know to use those items up first.
Then I made a rough note of how many meals
I thought I could glean from the contents of those shelves.
My budget needs a reset too
so in an effort to stretch my funds a bit further
one of my goals heading into the new year
will be to see how long I can go without needing to buy groceries
apart from milk & fresh produce
and still have the makings of some interesting, nourishing meals.
I spent time decanting dry ingredients into containers
and then lining them up on a shelf
where I can see how much I have of each
and keep track of what I use over the course of a month.
Plus, I really like the way the containers look,
all neatly lined up on the top shelf of my kitchen cabinet.
I don’t like to waste food
so it pleased me that there was nothing to discard
apart from some packaging
which was destined for the recycle bins.
I emptied the fridge, gave it a good cleaning t
hen organized it a bit better.
I’m going to be away house/dog-sitting for a couple of weeks
so I’ve been trying to use up what fresh items
I have on hand and will restock produce & dairy items
once I am back home again.
These are all just more small jobs but part of the thorough reset
that is my goal as I move forward through 2025.
I’ve got a few books loaded on my phone via the ’Libby’ app
for reading or listening to while I’m away
and I’m packing up some old photos & other memorabilia
along with craft supplies
to work on some family history scrapbook pages.
I'll take a jigsaw puzzle too,
just for something different to do
between scrapbooking and reading.
Well, that’s it for this week ….
Until next time …Nanny Anny
you are an inspiration ….. keep at it ….. and put your feet up while you are away …. you’ve earned it !!!
